Volunteer at Journey

Interested in connecting with others while using your passions to help share God's love story? It takes a lot of people to make our Journey gatherings happen. Whether you're an extrovert, introvert, task-champion, or people-person there's a spot just for you on our team.

Below you will find a list of specific roles -  all of which help make Journey a safe environment where imaginations awaken to the Great Creator. If you are interested in serving, find a role that may fit and fill out the sign up form.

 

 

JOURNEY HOST TEAM LEAD

Role

  • Leads members of the ushers and greeters team each week ensuring there is clarity of roles and responsibilities.

  • Builds relationship within the team and ensures that each member is known and cared for.

  • Actively recruits congregants to serve on the hospitality team recognizing the value the role the hospitality team serves at Journey

  • Ensures new team members have roles & responsibilities handout and are ready to serve.

  • Communicates with Journey Staff Point Person regarding any needs pertaining to the team, facility or congregation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 30 minutes before service time.

  • Connects with Journey Staff Point Person on duty to review order of service.

  • Ensure offering boxes and information table are in position.

  • Meet with greeters/ushers/connector 20 minutes prior to service to pray and cover important information for the service.

  • Ensure main gathering space doors are closed for live worship.

  • Ensure ushers and greeters are covering their sections

  • Be aware of security team members who are on duty for the service.

  • Monitor service for distractions and potential concerning situations.

  • Ensure attendance count is conducted.

 

Sample Timeline for Pre-Service

8:05 am – 8:10 am Prayer with team

8:10 am – 8:15 am Review gathering details with team

8:15am – Team takes positions for service


GREETER

Role

  • Understands the importance of first impressions on guests and strives to joyfully greet every person coming through his/her door.

  • Builds relationship within the team and cares for those he/she is serving alongside.

  • Possesses a desire to get to know Explorers and Partners with the benefit of being better able to identify new attenders.

  • Makes an effort to be educated on matters pertaining to the church (ie: teaching series, events approaching, etc..) or knows where to find the answer.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 30 minutes before service to check in with Volunteer Coordinator.

  • Accesses PCO, reads over service information for a general knowledge of events for the weekend.

  • Offer assistance to anyone who is in need or get help from another team member.

  • Answer questions as they arise or lead guest to staff/leadership for further assistance in getting an answer.

  • Familiarize yourself with the information on Journey in an effort to direct attenders looking for general information, ways to connect or serve.

  • Communicate any concerns or issues to Volunteer Coordinator before conclusion of gathering.

  • Remain at doors until Message/Conversation begins.

  • Return to assigned door at gathering conclusion to open doors and greet people as they leave.

  • Have fun and enjoy serving God and the people of Journey!


Parking Docent  

Role

  • Understands the importance of first impressions on guests and understands the Journey experience begins in the parking lot.

  • Strives to make a positive, warm and friendly first impression as people enter the parking lot

  • Helps to make Journey a physically safe and convenient place to worship

  • Builds relationship within the team and cares for those he/she is serving alongside.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 30 minutes before gathering to check in with Team Leader.

  • Manages the flow of traffic by ushering cars into spaces in a safe and efficient manner

  • Protects the safety of pedestrians

  • Ensures that handicapped spaces are used only by people with required stickers and passes

  • Welcomes people with a warm and friendly greeting

  • Is aware of surroundings and reports any suspicious behavior

  • Identifies potential problem areas in the parking lot and informs appropriate team members

  • Have fun and enjoy serving God and the people of Journey!


Parking Docent Lead

Role

  • Leads and oversees the Parking team to provide a great first impression to Journey attendees

  • Understands the importance of first impressions on guests and understands the Journey experience begins in the parking lot.

  • Strives to make a positive, warm and friendly first impression as people enter the parking lot

  • Helps to make Journey a physically safe and convenient place to worship

  • Builds relationship within the team and cares for those he/she is serving alongside.

 

Responsibilities

  • Helps recruit and train volunteers for the Parking Ministry

  • Schedules volunteers to serve for each of the Gatherings

  • Arrives 30 minutes before gathering to check in with Staff and Parking Team

  • Directs managment the flow of traffic by ushering cars into spaces in a safe and efficient manner

  • Protects the safety of pedestrians

  • Ensures that handicapped spaces are used only by people with required stickers and passes

  • Welcomes people with a warm and friendly greeting

  • Is aware of surroundings and reports any suspicious behavior

Worship Leader

Role

  • Assist in helping to create a distraction free environment for others to step into the expression of worship through music.

  • Assist in creating space for people to hear the voice of the Spirit as they both prepare for and reflect on the message given.

  • Help to uphold a level of excellence and preparation pertaining to your particular skill and instrument.

  • Lead by example as your goal is to help guide others into a place of worship.

  • Be on mission to help facilitate a musical worship experience that compliments all elements of the Gathering for that morning.

  • Be a shepherding role to your team as work to create an environment of creativity, freedom and safety for those you are leading in your band.

 

Responsibilities

  • Be paying attention to Planning Center to keep track of when you are scheduled to play.

  • Understand that you may be asked to lead in Students and/or the Gathering on Sunday.

  • Be in communication with the Worship Designer to get message content and flow for Gathering for that Sunday.

  • Pick songs off of planning center by the Thursday before the Sunday you are leading.

  • Be intentional on the front end to work through arrangements and communicate any expectations for certain songs if needed.

  • Arrive at 6:30 AM that Sunday morning to set up for practice.

  • Connect with our sound team for in ears and packs.

  • Be ready to guide the entire band practice.

  • Be aware of technical issues/instructions from our sound team.

  • Be sensitive to sound needs coming from your team as far as sound and various questions go.

  • Go to pre Gathering meeting in green room space 15 minutes prior to each Gathering.  

  • Touch base with worship designer and whoever is delivering the message prior to each Gathering for potential tweaks and adjustments.

  • Make sure team has the information they need if potential tweaks are made.

  • Be prepared to help move table and chairs for message portion of Gathering before and after worship sets.

  • Pack up and return ipad to closet.

  • Enjoy using your gift to serve your church family!


Gathering Musician

Role

  • Assist in helping to create a distraction free environment for others to step into the expression of worship through music.

  • Assist in creating space for people to hear the voice of the Spirit as they both prepare for and reflect on the message given.

  • Help to uphold a level of excellence and preparation pertaining to your particular skill and instrument.

  • Lead by example as your goal is to help guide others into a place of worship.

  • Support the song leader as they endeavor to hear from the Spirit and guide our people into a posture of worship.

 

Responsibilities

  • Be paying attention to Planning Center to keep track of when you are scheduled to play.

  • Access the Plan that pertains to your Sunday morning and be familiar with the songs uploaded by the worship leader.

  • Arrive at 6:30 AM that Sunday morning to set up for practice.

  • Connect with our sound team for in ears and packs.

  • Be ready for instruction from the worship leader as they guide the practice.

  • Go to pre Gathering meeting in green room space 15 minutes prior to each Gathering.  

  • Be ready for tweaks and adjustments to Gathering during each pre Gathering meeting.

  • Feel freedom to express any concerns or technical issues you may be experiencing to our sound team/worship leaders throughout the morning.

  • Be prepared to help move table and chairs for message portion of Gathering before and after worship sets.

  • Pack up and return ipad to closet.

  • Enjoy using your gift to serve your church family!


Musician - Journey Youth

Role

  • Assist in helping to create a distraction free environment for others to step into the expression of worship through music.

  • Assist in creating space for students to hear the voice of the Spirit as they both prepare for and reflect on the message given.

  • Help to uphold a level of excellence and preparation pertaining to your particular skill and instrument.

  • Lead by example as your goal is to help guide others into a place of worship.

  • Support the song leader as they endeavor to hear from the Spirit and guide our students into a posture of worship.

  • Engage with students on a personal level both on and off the platform.

 

Responsibilities

  • Be paying attention to Planning Center to keep track of when you are scheduled to play.

  • Access the Plan that pertains to your Sunday morning and be familiar with the songs uploaded by the worship leader.

  • Arrive at 4:15 AM on Wednesday afternoon to set up for practice.

  • Be prepared to stay the duration of the entire student Gathering.

  • Connect with our sound team for in ears and packs upon arrival.

  • Be ready for instruction from the worship leader as they guide the practice.

  • Be familiar with the flow of Gathering and when you are needed on the platform.

  • Be available for last minute adjustments that may need to take place prior to the Gathering starting.

  • Feel freedom to express any concerns or technical issues you may be experiencing to our sound team/worship leaders throughout the practice.

  • Pack up and return ipad to closet.

  • Have fun as you engage God and our students using your gift!


Gang Vocal Member

Role

  • Assist in helping to create a distraction free environment for others to step into the expression of worship through music.

  • Assist in creating space for people to hear the voice of the Spirit as they both prepare for and reflect on the message given.

  • Lead by example as your goal is to help guide others into a place of worship.

  • Sing for special events or Gathering that Journey holds throughout the year and holiday season.

 

Responsibilities

  • Be paying attention to Planning Center to keep track of when you are scheduled to play or when rehearsals may arise for special event.

  • Be listening to songs for that morning and start memorizing particular vocal part.

  • Be prompt to rehearsals that may take place.

  • Arrive at 6:30 AM that Sunday morning to set up for practice.

  • Be prepared to be led by the worship leader for the entirety of the practice.

  • Connect with our sound team for placement on platform.

  • Go to pre Gathering meeting in green room space 15 minutes prior to each Gathering.  

  • Be ready to hear adjustments and tweaks that may pertain to you before each Gathering.

  • Be aware of when to return and exit the platform before and after worship sets.

  • Enjoy using your gift to serve your church family!


Media and Visuals Specialist

Contributes to the worship at Journey. Media and Visuals can be a great enhancement and should not be a distraction or obstacle to worship. This is an important role in providing an atmosphere that helps people engage in the worship experience.

 

Role

  • Run visuals and media for worship. Consisting of, but not limited to song lyrics, graphics, videos, message notes and scriptures.

  • Works with audio, lighting and worship teams for continuity.

  • Be aware of overall quality of visuals and content in the Gatherings.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives at 7:00 am to prepare for first Gathering (8:30).

  • Review Planning Center Online for any changes or additions.

  • Change input and lyrics of songs as needed. Pay attention to phrasing, spelling and line/slide breaks. Check with worship leader(s) if clarification is required.

  • Rehearse with the band as they run through the song sets. Make sure slide structure and order matches what they are singing.

  • Input message notes, graphics and scriptures. Check spelling and punctuation.

  • Be engaged! Sing the lyrics. Read the words. Be intentional and follow the worship leader and speaker. Learn to anticipate!

  • Setup and run announcement loop before and after Gatherings for monitors in main space and throughout the building.


Lighting Specialist

Lighting is an important element in the Gatherings at Journey. It helps create an atmosphere by using color, hues and intensity that contribute to the worship experience.

 

Role

  • Uses computerized lighting control to set lighting for each segment of worship.

  • Control house lighting and adjust as needed.

  • Works with worship teams and sets lighting scenes, colors and intensity based on overall visuals desired.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives at 7:30 am to prepare for first Gathering (8:30).

  • Review Planning Center Online for any changes or additions. Pay special attention to transitions.


STUDENT MINISTRY VILLAGE LEADER

Journey Student Ministry desires that every student that walks thru our doors feels and knows that they BELONG...period! That thru the relationships that they cultivate with leaders and peers, they canJUMP IN to what’s happening in our church and community near and far and will have an opportunity to go GO DEEP in their relationship with Jesus. End Goal: Students would LIVE OUT God’s love story.

 

Role

The role of a Village Leaders is to cultivate a welcoming and safe environment so students feel known and seen…that they truly Belong no matter where they are at on their spiritual journey.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 30 minutes before service time.

  • Connects with Journey Staff Point Person on flow of Gathering and Village discussion questions.

  • Assist in set up and tear down.

  • Connect and engage students in and out side of your Village before and after Gathering.

  • Be prepared and present during Village time; ready to pose questions and listen to the responses of students.

  • Be present at as many Journey Student Ministry events.

  • Contact Village students weekly with phone call, text, etc.

  • When possible, attend the extra curricular activities they are involved in (baseball, dance, choir, etc)

  • Be a liaison with our ministry to parents.


KIDS MINISTRY 25N VILLAGE LEADER

Role

The role of a Village Leaders in 25N (Elementary) is to cultivate a fun, welcoming and safe environment so kids feel known and seen…that they truly Belong no matter what.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 15 minutes before service time.

  • Connects with Journey Staff Point Person on flow of Gathering and Village discussion questions/activities.

  • Connect and engage kids during the 25N Gathering.

  • Be prepared and present during Village time; ready to pose questions and listen to the responses of kids.

  • Be a liaison with our ministry to parents.

  • Make sure all kids are checked out correctly using our safety precautions that are in place.

  • Assist in cleaning up the room at the end of the Gathering.


Farm Village Guide

Role

  • Act as a village guide at The Farm – A Gathering for Young Adults on a Tuesday night 2 times each month (weeks 1 and 3).

  • Connect with young adults away from a village night to build friendship.

  • Make an effort to know what’s coming up in The Farm discipleship experience.
     

Responsibilities

  • Attend The Farm - Villages Gathering twice a month on a Monday night.

  • Arrives 30 minutes before gathering to check in with the young adults pastor and/or Farm coordinator to go over the evening schedule and pray together (6.30pm).

  • Welcome the community as they arrive being particularly attentive to anyone who doesn’t appear to be connecting with anyone.

  • Be ready to explain the vision of The Farm and what is happening that evening.

  • Facilitate conversation when in village time (see Village Guides Facilitation Role document).

  • Be ready to respond to a young adult in need of a listening ear and prayer.

  • Communicate any ideas, concerns or issues with the young adults pastor.

  • Assist in identifying young adults who can participate in our Village night experience, and different serve opportunities.

  • Where possible connect with young adults in other settings. Social nights (week 2) and contemplation nights (final Tuesday of the month) provide opportunity for this.

  • Follow @journeythefarm on Instagram and participate in online interaction.

  • Have fun and enjoy serving God and the people of the The Farm!

Arts Collective Village Guide

Role

  • Act as a village guide at the Journey Arts Collective – Village Nights on a Monday 2 times a month over 5 months (dates will be provided).

  • Connect with young adults away from a village night to build friendship and support creative endeavors.

  • Make an effort to know what’s coming up with the JAC discipleship experience.

 

Responsibilities

  • Attend the Art Villages gathering twice a month on a Monday night.

  • Arrives 30 minutes before gathering to check in with JAC Village Coordinator to go over the evening schedule and pray together (6.30pm).

  • Welcome the community as they arrive being particularly attentive to anyone who doesn’t appear to be connecting with anyone.

  • Be ready to provide a simple explanation of JAC, the art villages and what is happening that evening (we will equip you for this).

  • Facilitate conversation when group breaks into villages (see Village Guides Facilitation Role document).

  • Be ready to respond to an artist in need of a listening ear and prayer.

  • Communicate any ideas, concerns or issues with the artist pastor.

  • Where possible, connect with artists away from a village night. This could be a JAC event (we have 4 each year), supporting an artist achievement (EP release, film premier, dance production, etc.) or participating in the interaction on JAC social media.

  • Assist in identifying artists who can participate in our Village night experience, JAC events, social media (art & story blog) and different serve opportunities.

  • Have fun and enjoy serving God and the people of the Journey Arts Collective villages!


Village Serve Point Person

Role

  • Communicate with Serve Pastor about village serving at least once a month

  • Organize monthly service opportunity for village via serve Saturday

  • Builds relationship with serve pastor and find ongoing relational serve opportunities for your village

 

Responsibilities

  • Check in with Serve pastor monthly about previous months serve opportunity and needs for next serve opportunity.

  • Send serve stories to serve pastor as awesome things happen.

  • Lead village in serve activity

  • Follow up with serve pastor with any issues you have with serve opportunity.

  • 2x a year attend serve summit.

Village GUIDE

Role

  • Create emotionally safe soul environments in homes that meet on a
    regular basis.

  • Communicate vision, direction and provide leadership support to the group.

  • Builds relationships within the Village and ensures that each member is
    known and cared for

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Village by facilitating the gathering, monitoring its health and
    duration, and promoting participation among group members.

  • Maintain an open and welcoming environment.

  • Delegate Village roles such as host, hospitality, serve person and
    communication and ensure all are connected and working together.

  • Commit to engage in leadership development opportunities provided by
    the church.

  • Identify and develop a qualified apprentice with a goal to release
    apprentice to guide a Village in the future.

  • Communicates with Journey Staff Point Person regarding any needs
    pertaining to the team, facility or congregation.

  • Have a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Recognize the Bible as the authority for their lives?

  • Have the time, emotional space and discernment to lead a group
    effectively.

  • Has completed or is in the process of the explorer path by attending
    Village Launch and becoming a Partner with Journey
