Volunteer at Journey

Interested in connecting with others while using your passions to help share God's love story? It takes a lot of people to make our Journey gatherings happen. Whether you're an extrovert, introvert, task-champion, or people-person there's a spot just for you on our team.

Below you will find a list of specific roles -  all of which help make Journey a safe environment where imaginations awaken to the Great Creator. If you are interested in serving, find a role that may fit and fill out the sign up form.

JOURNEY HOST TEAM

Role

  • Usher and greet our Journey family during, before and after the gathering.

  • Builds relationship within the team and ensures that each member is known and cared for.

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 15 minutes before service time.

  • Connects with Journey Staff Point Person on duty to review order of service.

  • Ensure offering boxes and information table are in position.

  • Ensure main gathering space doors are closed for live worship.

  • Ensure ushers and greeters are covering their sections

  • Be aware of security team members who are on duty for the service.

  • Monitor service for distractions and potential concerning situations.

  • Ensure attendance count is conducted.

Parking TEAM

Role

  • Understands the importance of first impressions on guests and understands the Journey experience begins in the parking lot.

  • Strives to make a positive, warm and friendly first impression as people enter the parking lot

  • Helps to make Journey a physically safe and convenient place to worship

  • Builds relationship within the team and cares for those he/she is serving alongside.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 30 minutes before gathering to check in with Team Leader.

  • Manages the flow of traffic by ushering cars into spaces in a safe and efficient manner

  • Protects the safety of pedestrians

  • Ensures that handicapped spaces are used only by people with required stickers and passes

  • Welcomes people with a warm and friendly greeting

  • Is aware of surroundings and reports any suspicious behavior

  • Identifies potential problem areas in the parking lot and informs appropriate team members

  • Have fun and enjoy serving God and the people of Journey!


Media and Visuals Specialist

Contributes to the worship at Journey. Media and Visuals can be a great enhancement and should not be a distraction or obstacle to worship. This is an important role in providing an atmosphere that helps people engage in the worship experience.

 

Role

  • Run visuals and media for worship. Consisting of, but not limited to song lyrics, graphics, videos, message notes and scriptures.

  • Works with audio, lighting and worship teams for continuity.

  • Be aware of overall quality of visuals and content in the Gatherings.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives at 7:00 am to prepare for first Gathering (8:30).

  • Review Planning Center Online for any changes or additions.

  • Change input and lyrics of songs as needed. Pay attention to phrasing, spelling and line/slide breaks. Check with worship leader(s) if clarification is required.

  • Rehearse with the band as they run through the song sets. Make sure slide structure and order matches what they are singing.

  • Input message notes, graphics and scriptures. Check spelling and punctuation.

  • Be engaged! Sing the lyrics. Read the words. Be intentional and follow the worship leader and speaker. Learn to anticipate!

  • Setup and run announcement loop before and after Gatherings for monitors in main space and throughout the building.


Lighting Specialist

Lighting is an important element in the Gatherings at Journey. It helps create an atmosphere by using color, hues and intensity that contribute to the worship experience.

 

Role

  • Uses computerized lighting control to set lighting for each segment of worship.

  • Control house lighting and adjust as needed.

  • Works with worship teams and sets lighting scenes, colors and intensity based on overall visuals desired.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives at 7:30 am to prepare for first Gathering (8:30).

  • Review Planning Center Online for any changes or additions. Pay special attention to transitions.

Audio Engineer

Audio is a very important element in Sunday morning Gatherings. The audio team works as an extension of the worship team, providing an atmosphere that helps people engage in the worship experience.

 

Role

  • Run audio console for Sunday morning gatherings

  • Ensure a distraction-free morning that allows people to engage in a worship experience

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives at 6:15 AM on Sunday morning for setup

  • Be paying attention to Planning Center to keep track of when you are scheduled

  • Access the Plan for your Sunday morning and be familiar with the instrumentation and setup of the band

  • Mix the band throughout the morning to ensure a quality mix when the gatherings begin

  • Be prepared to troubleshoot any technical problems that arise throughout the morning

  • Stay engaged and be prepared in case changes are made to the service

STUDENT MINISTRY GUIDE

Journey Student Ministry desires that every student that walks thru our doors feels and knows that they BELONG...period! That thru the relationships that they cultivate with leaders and peers, they canJUMP IN to what’s happening in our church and community near and far and will have an opportunity to go GO DEEP in their relationship with Jesus. End Goal: Students would LIVE OUT God’s love story.

 

Role

The role of a Village Leaders is to cultivate a welcoming and safe environment so students feel known and seen…that they truly Belong no matter where they are at on their spiritual journey.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 30 minutes before service time.

  • Connects with Journey Staff Point Person on flow of Gathering and Village discussion questions.

  • Assist in set up and tear down.

  • Connect and engage students in and out side of your Village before and after Gathering.

  • Be prepared and present during Village time; ready to pose questions and listen to the responses of students.

  • Be present at as many Journey Student Ministry events.

  • Contact Village students weekly with phone call, text, etc.

  • When possible, attend the extra curricular activities they are involved in (baseball, dance, choir, etc)

  • Be a liaison with our ministry to parents.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY GUIDE

Role

The role of a guide in Children's Ministry is to cultivate a fun, welcoming and safe environment so kids feel known and seen…that they truly Belong no matter what.

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrives 15 minutes before service time.

  • Connects with Journey Staff Point Person on flow of Gathering and Village discussion questions/activities.

  • Connect and engage kids during the 25N Gathering.

  • Be prepared and present during Village time; ready to pose questions and listen to the responses of kids.

  • Be a liaison with our ministry to parents.

  • Make sure all kids are checked out correctly using our safety precautions that are in place.

  • Assist in cleaning up the room at the end of the Gathering.


Farm Village Guide

Role

  • Act as a village guide at The Farm – A Gathering for Young Adults on a Tuesday night 2 times each month (weeks 1 and 3).

  • Connect with young adults away from a village night to build friendship.

  • Make an effort to know what’s coming up in The Farm discipleship experience.
     

Responsibilities

  • Attend The Farm - Villages Gathering twice a month on a Monday night.

  • Arrives 30 minutes before gathering to check in with the young adults pastor and/or Farm coordinator to go over the evening schedule and pray together (6.30pm).

  • Welcome the community as they arrive being particularly attentive to anyone who doesn’t appear to be connecting with anyone.

  • Be ready to explain the vision of The Farm and what is happening that evening.

  • Facilitate conversation when in village time (see Village Guides Facilitation Role document).

  • Be ready to respond to a young adult in need of a listening ear and prayer.

  • Communicate any ideas, concerns or issues with the young adults pastor.

  • Assist in identifying young adults who can participate in our Village night experience, and different serve opportunities.

  • Where possible connect with young adults in other settings. Social nights (week 2) and contemplation nights (final Tuesday of the month) provide opportunity for this.

  • Follow @journeythefarm on Instagram and participate in online interaction.

  • Have fun and enjoy serving God and the people of the The Farm!

Arts Collective Village Guide

Role

  • Act as a village guide at the Journey Arts Collective – Village Nights on a Monday 2 times a month over 5 months (dates will be provided).

  • Connect with young adults away from a village night to build friendship and support creative endeavors.

  • Make an effort to know what’s coming up with the JAC discipleship experience.

 

Responsibilities

  • Attend the Art Villages gathering twice a month on a Monday night.

  • Arrives 30 minutes before gathering to check in with JAC Village Coordinator to go over the evening schedule and pray together (6.30pm).

  • Welcome the community as they arrive being particularly attentive to anyone who doesn’t appear to be connecting with anyone.

  • Be ready to provide a simple explanation of JAC, the art villages and what is happening that evening (we will equip you for this).

  • Facilitate conversation when group breaks into villages (see Village Guides Facilitation Role document).

  • Be ready to respond to an artist in need of a listening ear and prayer.

  • Communicate any ideas, concerns or issues with the artist pastor.

  • Where possible, connect with artists away from a village night. This could be a JAC event (we have 4 each year), supporting an artist achievement (EP release, film premier, dance production, etc.) or participating in the interaction on JAC social media.

  • Assist in identifying artists who can participate in our Village night experience, JAC events, social media (art & story blog) and different serve opportunities.

  • Have fun and enjoy serving God and the people of the Journey Arts Collective villages!

Village GUIDE

Role

  • Create emotionally safe soul environments in homes that meet on a
    regular basis.

  • Communicate vision, direction and provide leadership support to the group.

  • Builds relationships within the Village and ensures that each member is
    known and cared for

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Village by facilitating the gathering, monitoring its health and
    duration, and promoting participation among group members.

  • Maintain an open and welcoming environment.

  • Delegate Village roles such as host, hospitality, serve person and
    communication and ensure all are connected and working together.

  • Commit to engage in leadership development opportunities provided by
    the church.

  • Identify and develop a qualified apprentice with a goal to release
    apprentice to guide a Village in the future.

  • Communicates with Journey Staff Point Person regarding any needs
    pertaining to the team, facility or congregation.

  • Have a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Recognize the Bible as the authority for their lives?

  • Have the time, emotional space and discernment to lead a group
    effectively.

  • Has completed or is in the process of the explorer path by attending
    Village Launch and becoming a Partner with Journey

GOOD SHEPHERD GUIDE

Role

As a Guide with our children from 0-6 years old your greatest message to the children is of Jesus’ love for them. We promote this by Wondering openly with the children, leaving their hearts to express and experience the lessons deeply. Praying for sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and his guidance during your time with the children is important to us as a team. You will work with the trained Good Shepherd Teacher in the rooms, seeing to the quiet redirection of restless/crying children during lessons times. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Help at door with checking children into the room

  • Help the Good Shepherd Teacher by helping to quietly redirect restless children

  • Assist with the crying child, if unconsolable contact parent

  • Help manage children during circle time

  • Help manage children during work time

  • Helping a child set up a work/lesson and also encouraging the child to do some of the work by himself.

  • Assist with non readers

  • Assist during potty breaks, ensuring privacy

  • Assist Teacher with feast time and clean up

  • Assist with dismissal by checking parent tags with child tags. Releasing child only to adult guardian/ parent.
