Serve

There is this strange paradox that exists in this faith we profess. Life is found in death. The more we give away the more we become...

Jesus modeled this for us in the insertion of Himself onto the pages of human history. His example continued as he trekked to the cross and emerged from death. He gave us the ultimate example of love by laying down his life for those He knew and those He didn't. When we serve, we maintain perspective of life's purpose. We give ourselves away, for if we don't, we will lose ourselves.

A wise author named Isaiah once wrote,
I'll tell you what it really means to worship the LORD.
Remove the chains of prisoners who are chained unjustly.
Free those who are abused! Share your food with everyone who is hungry; share your home with the poor and homeless.
Give clothes to those in need; don't turn away your relatives.
Then your light will shine like the dawning sun, and you will quickly be healed.
Your honesty will protect you as you advance, and the glory of the LORD will defend you from behind.

Each Sunday morning, as an extension of our worship experience, we send a portion of our church family into our local community to serve. This site exists to provide an avenue of information and celebration for this divine opportunity.

Serve Journal Excerpts

Serve

"What an unexpected experience at the nursing home. Sometimes when plans change it is all for the better. We had a great time visiting with the men and women at NHC. We played Uno, shared stories, and just enjoyed good company. It is such a joy to go and see their faces light up. I'm so glad to be a part if SERVE and have these opportunities."

"We went to a community in Franklin on a drizzly day. We set up our grill, drinks, chipsand started making Hot dogs. By 10:30am we had 2 kids and about every 10 minutes or so we'd have 2 more show up. In total we had about 30 kids, 4 high schoolers and 7 adults come by. The B-B-Q was a success and we kept our commitment to the kids. I'm very proud of our SERVE team."

"Our visit was such a blessing today. One thing we observed was some of those precious people were used to being very active at one point in their lives and now feel somewhat bored. They enjoyed telling stories of their lives and appreciated our genuine interest in what they were saying. I loved hearing stories of World travels and one woman shared her many medicinal uses of whiskey! We prayed with a woman who is about to have surgery. We are all looking forward to our next visit."

This was a comment from a Single Mom we Served in the community:
"Thank you soooo much for meeting at the trailer yesterday. What you guys do is a blessing to our community. The world would be alot better if we had more people like the ones in your church. I am so excited that you all can get that floor fixed. This place is a blessing for my family and I really need to get out of the neighborhood that we are in now. The place needs to be put together to make it our home and feel homely. When you walked around yesterday if you noticed anything or a good way to decorate please let me know, because I have never done this before. I don't know if you know I have five children so three will have to share a room and the two younger ones will have to share a room, I am open to any suggestions. I cannot wait to move in and apply the life changing things I have learned over the last couple of months. Thank you soooo much!!!!!! Love Ya"

We had 3 of us guys go out for a prayer walk today. We decided that we would walk together to downtown and then we each split up. It was a great reminder that when we slow down we can see the needs and importance of individuals. Having no idea of what people were going through but to leave it over to God and trust that he works in their lives and guides them. One of the guys mentioned that he forgot that he can pray in the midst of just walking around people. He said that it was amazing to pray for people he walked by and them having no idea. The freedom and power of prayer - Thank you, Lord!
